Slad Village and the Stroud Valleys
This tour is concentrated around the steep-sided Stroud Valleys where the author
of ‘Cider with Rosie’ grew up. Laurie loved his own Slad Valley and his writing
reflects the emotive bond of this area with his own childhood. This bond we can
perhaps begin to understand as we view its richness and quiet beauty.
If you
have not read any of Laurie’s poetry and prose, then after viewing this lovely
valley and understanding why he felt so passionate about this area, a trip to
the book shop is a must.
The surrounding valleys hold many secrets and we can sample the scenic delights
of Sapperton, Bisley, Sheepscombe, Cranham, Miserden, Painswick, and many more.
You may like to include the mysterious deserted Gothic Woodchester Mansion,
set away from all roads, in beautiful parkland created by Capability Brown.
