The Wye
Valley and Royal Forest of Dean has a wildness and beauty appreciated by
both Wordsworth and Turner and a fascinating visible history dating back to
the 9th century.
We start with a beautiful drive through the Royal Forest of Dean to Symonds
Yat viewpoint and to the ancient ferry alongside the river. From here we
venture into the hills of the forest, to panoramic historical viewpoints.
From the heights of the Kymin Hill we can look down upon the ancient town of
Monmouth, birthplace of Henry V, and view the rolling hills stretching to
the distant Welsh Mountains. We then follow the lovely Wye Valley through
stunning scenery and centuries of history, to stop for lunch at an old ferry
Inn overlooking the river. Our afternoon consists of a relaxing drive,
following the picturesque course of the Wye through riverside villages to
the village of Tintern, with its magnificent Cistercian Abbey and
interesting shops and Inns.
